Britney Spears shocked her fans when she married childhood friend Jason Alexander in in 2004. The two have been married for 2 days. The thing that went wrong? The pop icon married, no wait…she actually proposed to her childhood sweetheart and got really quickly to it in a hurry in a Las Vegas ceremony. After about 55 hours, they cancelled their marriage, Britney referring to it since as a “joke that went too far”.
They claim it was the spirit of Sin City that made them take this irrational decision of getting married. “It was just so crazy, man,” Alexander later told Access Hollywood. “We were just looking at each other and said, Let’s go get married, just for the hell of it.” Again Alexander said that they were both drunk and indulged in “party favors”. Britney’s outfit for the wedding was made out of a baseball cap and torn jeans. Thanks to her manager, who got Britney an attorney as quickly as he could get, the crazy wedding was soon to be over. Luckily there wasn’t a big fight between them “they seemed to be comfortable with the fact that they were getting divorced.”
The annulment papers cited that the reason for the dissolution of the marriage is that Britney “lacked understanding of her actions to the extent that she was incapable of agreeing to the marriage.” Alexander totally disagree with it. Britney commented after the wedding was over that she was “being silly, being rebellious, and not really taking the responsibility of what I was doing.”
So should we have taken this as a first sign of Britney’s decline of rehab stints, head shaving and court hearings? Everybody took this marriage as it was presented. As a silly pop princess moment. Today her career is on fire once again and as her fellow judge at the X-Factor, Simon Cowell said: “The fact that she’s one of the most talked about – not just pop stars – but people in the world today, means that you’ve got this star power. She’s still hot, she’s still having hit records and she’s still controversial, there’s a reason for that.”
