If you happen to own a TV just for guests or because it looks nice with your brand new furniture, you might not exactly who they are, but you surely have an idea, despite not opening any of the links mentioning them. They are everywhere.
Even when you know who they are, you still do not know why they are famous, yet everyone can still see them everywhere in every single corner of the world. If it is not on their reality TV show “Keeping Up With The Kardashians”, which has been on since 2007, it is on the news, any pop culture show, gossip magazine, all websites about celebrities and even on websites that would normally have nothing to do with them.
They are mentioned for every single thing they do – going shopping, eating frozen yoghurt, walking their children to ballet classes, travelling from USA to France just to eat a special pie, sharing random naked selfies on Instagram, dating or not dating random celebrities – and at some point, everyone said at least once “who cares?” but still knew all the details five minutes later. They are like plague, they are annoying, but they are addicting and we all have to admit that we sometimes feel jealous of them.
From rags to riches
No exactly, but they were not always like they are right now. Once upon a time, the Kardashians were your average family prone to scandals and fame. Coming from an Armenian family of immigrants, Robert Kardashian was a Los Angeles lawyer and co-founder of “Radio & Records”, a trade publication, who married Kristen Houghton, with whom he had four children, Kourtney, Kimberly, Khloe and Robert Jr.
But long before their own children were involved in various outrages or random regular stuff that still get them the media’s attention, the now divorced Robert Kardashian and Kris Jenner were tangled in a scandal involving a crime.
Friend since the 70s with football player O. J. Simpson, who was also the godfather of his children, Robert Kardashian was one of the defenders of the football star and the one presumed to have aided him in destroying incriminating evidence in the criminal trial for murdering his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman.
The trial ended with O. J. as not guilty and Robert continued his quiet life until his death in 2003, while Kris continued with her life with new husband Bruce (now Caitlyn) Jenner, with whom she had daughters Kendall and Kylie.
The junk food of TV
The Kardashian family returned to media’s attention in 2007 when the second daughter, Kim, had her sex tape leaked and she filed a lawsuit. Perhaps this event would have passed unnoticeable, but the newspapers and tabloids were presenting her as Paris Hilton’s friend and the daughter of O. J.’s defender. People got even more interested and in the same year, “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” happened.
For 11 season and other spin offs, people have been watching Kris, Kim, Kourney, Khloe, Kendall and Kylie and their men from their lives getting richer, having fun, getting married, getting divorced, having babies, going through a rollercoaster of emotions and changes. Their lives might seem very easy and everything appears to be served to them on a silver platter, but that does not make them less interesting.

6. Kristen Mary “Kris” Jenner
Born in 1955, Kris Houghton was meant for big things. Kris married Robert Kardashian in 1978. During their 13 years of marriage, they had four children. Despite getting divorced due to her cheating on her husband, Robert and Kris stayed friends until his death.
Shortly after her split up, Kris married Bruce Jenner, a medal winning athlete and had 2 more children. Their relationship could be described as close, but disruptive as Kris concentrated too much on daughter Kim’s fame and Jenner went through his own issues.
The couple announced the rupture in 2013 and the divorced completed two years later. Eventually, Bruce came out as a transgender woman and changed her name into Caitlyn. Kris was shocked by the revelation, but tried to show her support for the person with whom she had two daughters and many years of happiness.
Why we love her
Kris might not be the best candidate for mother of the many last decades, but she surely cares about her daughter’s well-being. While running her own company, “Jenner Communications”, Kris took into her hands her children’s careers as a mother knows best what is good for them.
She happens to be ridiculous from time to time, all for the sakes of having fun, and while she might seem as a cold hearted person, she is very sensitive and has often cried and proven how much she cares about her family.
She is also a dedicated grandmother. Favourite quote: “Kim, would you stop taking pictures of yourself? Your sister’s going to jail!”
5. Kylie Kristen Jenner
Technically not a Kardashian, but she surely adapted to the name and everything that came with it. The 18 year old has grown from the sister hanging out with the show’s divas to a diva on her own. She might be the youngest, but this did not stop her from securing her future and make a name in the media.
Following the pattern of other famous sisters, like the Olsen twins, Kylie along Kendall released their own products, from nail polish to jewelry, clothes and other accessories. She and Kendall also published a book “Rebels: City of Indra”, though written by a ghost writer.
Why we love her
While she seems to be stepping in her sister Kim’s shoes, Kylie is doing nothing but being herself. She has been heavily criticized by people on her life decisions involving dating a much older man with a child, while she was still underage, and the sudden change of her look – bigger lips and crazy hair colours, but love is love and one has to do whatever to feel better with oneself.
Slowly she has become an Instagram queen and while she is still at the beginning of her life, she is, we can only assume that her life is going to become better and better. Why? Kylie already bought her own mansion, has her own app, got involved in many charities and is becoming an entrepreneur. Favourite quote: “You have to be confident with yourself before you can feel confident all the time which is hard to do sometimes.”
4. Kendall Nicole Jenner
Born in 1995, Kendall is the first child of Kris and Bruce (Caitlyn) Jenner and Kylie’s older sister, named after her mother’s dearest friend, Nicole Brown. While on the screen she has been the quiet sister, Kendall knew what her life was going to be all about.
Kendall began her career as a model from the age of 14 and having a famous family did help her get some big contracts. She has modeled for Marc Jacobs, Givenchy, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Tommy Hilfiger, Vera Wang, Michael Kors and other big names in the fashion industry. She was also featuredon the covers of many magazines including “Teen Vogue”, “Interview”, “GQ” and “Marie Claire” in some of Estee Lauder’s ads for 2015.
Why we love her
Aside from being a gorgeous model – she is one of the most Googled models and the most reblogged model on Tumblr and the most followed model on Twitter for 2015 – she is a young woman. Kendall has a close relationship with all of her sisters and their children, but the closest she is with her younger sister, Kylie.
Throughout the seasons on “Keeping Up With The Kardashians”, they have been inseparable. The two have their own businesses together and are charitable. Also, due to her work, she is best friends with models Gigi and Bella Hadid and Hailey Baldwin, with whom she has matched broken heart tattoos. Favourite quote: “Confidence is better than cockiness.”
3. Khloe Alexandra Kardashian Odom
Born in June 1984 is the third daughter of Robert Kardashian Kris Jenner. A beautiful soul, but not so lucky in life, Khloe opted for homeschooling after her sisters’ graduation, due to her not feeling comfortable and rather lonely in high school.
She reached fame once her family got its own show. Khloe married basketball star Lamar Odom in 2009 and departed for a while for their own show, “Khloe & Lamar”. Along her older sisters, Khloe got into the clothing business and co-owns the “D-A-S-H” stores, while still releasing clothing lines for “Bebe” and “QVC”, has her own fragrance and has co-hosted one season of “The X Factor”.
Why we love her
Khloe is the funniest Kardashian girl. Despite her troubled life and insecurities, Khloe is the heart of the family. She might be a goof, always ready to do or say something crazy, but Khloe’s heart is just as big as her hair. She loves her family, is very dedicated to her father’s memory and is the best aunt in the world.
While she did not have the luck of having her own children, despite trying, Khloe has bonded a lot with her nephew Mason and more than being just aunt Koko, she is like a second mother to him. It is just difficult not to love her. Favourite quote: “My personality is more like let me laugh instead of cry and let me enjoy the moments that I can.”
2. Kimberly “Kim” Noel Kardashian West
The queen herself. Born in 1980, Kim is the engine keeping the family’s fame going on. While renowned for her extravagant wedding with Kris Humphries, which did not last too much, Kim actually got her fame from a much younger age.
When she was only 19 years old, Kim married the music producer Damon Thomas, but the marriage was not a happy one and before their divorce, Kim was already dating the singer Ray J. Hanging out with Paris Hilton and other socialites, Kim was making already a name when her sex tape made with Ray J was leaked and she was all over the news. Following the events, she got her entire family a contract for a reality TV show and since then, she has been everywhere.
Why we love her
It is hard to say whether people truly love her or love to hate her, but Kim’s fame got her a rather unpleasant name. However, she has shown to change, especially since she married rapper Kanye West and had their first child, North. Motherhood has changed Kimberly and helped her mature.
Of course, even before being the mother of two, Kim was already very dedicated to her family, insisting on doing most things together as a team, especially when it came to her sisters Kourtney and Khloe. Of course, we must mention the heart breaking moment when she wanted both her fathers to be part of her wedding experience by asking Bruce/Caitlyn to walk her down the aisle, while her dress had a piece cut from one of Robert Sr.’s shirts. Kim also has her selfless and humanitarian side and has supported financially many movements and foundations. Favourite quote: “I am soooo excited!”
1. Kourtney Mary Kardashian
She might be tiny, but this 36 year old woman is sure tough. She was the first of the sisters to dive into the clothing industry by opening the “Smooch” boutique for children and later “D-A-S-H”.
Kourtney’s life has been more about her businesses and children rather than fame itself, so despite being on “KWUTK” and having her own spin offs, “Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami” and “Kourtney and Kim Take New York, Kourtney’s other appearances only consist of magazine covers and photo-shoots, including the famous nude pose for Vanity Fair. Her love life has been resumed only to Scott Disick. Their relationship started in 2006 and lasted until 2015 – what was before and what is after, it is not relevant to anyone.
Why we love her
Kourtney is everyone’s favourite Kardashian girl due to her maturity. Some people would claim that she is a matter mother figure to all her siblings than Kris herself. With a degree in Theatre Arts, Kourtney has tried to maintain a normal life despite her family’s growing fame and being constantly followed by cameras and paparazzi.
Kourtney has had an on and off relationship with Scott Disick, whom he supported through alcohol problems and with whom she has 3 children: 6 year old Mason, 3 year old Penelope and 1 year old Reign. Regardless of them breaking up, we can only hope that Kourtney and Scott will make up and be the nonconventional family they used to be.
She is probably the most underrated Kardashian girl, but she surely is the strongest and the one anyone can count on. Also, who else can call out and burn Kim and Kris on their self-centrism?
