Since the new patch 6.1 the mid lane hasn’t been the same. All the midlaners we were used to are now forgotten under a blanked of dust, waiting hopefully to come out in the light again.

The top lane moved on to the mid, the bot-lane as well, it’s a total mess of champions playing in the midlane, being more like and experimental lane than a soft mage-liking lane. Or maybe draw another lane for this fellows.

Don’t get me wrong, I play the sick mode myself, Graves mid, and jungle, and top, Gangplank the same, but don’t mind me, the other champions seem a little off not making any kind of logic into this game.

Flash/ Ignite is still the way to go, I’ve seen Flash/ Teleport as well but those were total retards, flyyy aaall ooover the map my fellows, they will be distracted by the sky and won’t see their Nexus falling to pieces. There’s place for only one Superman in this game and that’s for the top lane.

6. Fizz – the fish with feet

fizz league of legendsObnoxious champ when you play against him, easy escape tools, lots of burst damage if you land that ultimate well and fun to play too. They nerfed him countless times now that you barely notice his damage, but’s still good. I love to play him Ignite/Exhaust, taking for sure the first blood at level 2 or 3.

He practically doesn’t need Flash. Or you can coop with Heal, much better team-oriented that could get you out of trouble better. You barely have time to use that Flash, jumping up and down all the time.

With a win rate of 50.6% and a ban rate of 7.3% I think this little fishie is more than good to dissolve the mid lane and carry your way towards victory. If you make it till late game, that being the part where he excels, having a very bad start with no range and low poke damage, but he is definitely able to poke. He can as easily be used in jungle or top but not with the same success, needing to build some tankiness instead for the team.

His runes are proper build if they are the followings: 3 Quints of Ability Power, 9 Marks of Magic Penetration, 9 Seals of Health and 9 Glyphs of Magic Resist considering the fact that most probable he will be facing another mage carrier. The masteries you should consider are 18/0/12.

The build isn’t so playful as the summoner spells so you must consider a precise route when it comes to it: Sorcerer’s Shoes of Aclarity, definitely Lich Bane, Zhonya’s Hourglass for more annoying escapes, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Void Staff and you could choose for your last item, first of all, the Guardian Angel, or another damage item such as Ryla’s Crystal Scepter.

Fizz is particularly weak against Mordekaiser and Akali or Ryze and Diana but he successfully can counter Twisted Fate, Anivia, Veigar and other mages that require proper aim. Synergy it may have with Yasuo.

5. Twisted Fate – the annoyed poker player that throws his hand when he doesn’t like it.

best midlaners, Twisted FateI must admit, this is one of the best champions when it comes to lane sustenance, having lots of mana at his disposal, good creep clears and awesome roams on the map. I can’t find a minus for this champion except that he lacks escape mechanisms that would be vital for a mage. It has a stun though, and a flash far across the map, but he still lacks.

If you take spell-vamp runes on this one you may never be required to leave the lane for that matter and you could poke forever with Wild Cards. I kinda hate that’s quite the singles reliant damage spell for him but enough, being able to peel of the adversaries in style, not even having to approach them in any way though they are easy to dodge. With a low CD at Pick a Card this is one of the best choices for mid. You have like 3 seconds when having 40%, full Cooldown reduction.

With a win rate of 51.8% and a ban rate of almost 6%, you could easily get your hands onto this fellow and really make a difference. A champion particularly good in mid-game and less early even though you can bully the hell out of your opponent, this is the perfect choice when it comes to pro players, being hard to master at the beginning of you “career” in this game.

He can be build ad as well but I don’t really recommend doing so cause of his low range over to be dealing with. So here are the runes required for this fellow: 3 Quints of Movement Speed, 9 Marks of Magic Penetration, 9 Seals of Scaling Health, 9 Glyphs of Scaling Cooldown Reduction. The masteries are 12/18/0. The final balanced build should be looking like the following: Definitely Lich Bane, Zhonya’s Hourglass, Ionian Boots of Lucidity, Luden’s Echo, Rod of Ages / Abyssal Scepter depending how your game is running for you.

Particularly weak against Ahri, Fizz– much easier to handle, Diana, but strong against Ryze, Lissandra or Evelynn. Has a nasty synergy with Nocturne, swell- instant ganks and style as well.

4. Lux – The little girl that didn’t hit puberty yet

league of legends, LuxPerfect mage at a distance with a very reliable ultimate when it comes to finishing fleeing enemies. The cons may consist in the mana hungry construction of hers and the high cooldown abilities that may create a gap in case you miss them.

I’ve seen some players playing her with Barrier or Heal and it’s pretty decent kind of style considering you have no dash abilities and you can be confronted with toe to toe battles, rendering their burst to 0 or grant you health when in need. Even if she doesn’t counter many champions she doesn’t get countered as well, it’s more like a ”let’s see what’s happening next “ kinda waiting game.

With a win rate of 52.4% and almost a 0 % ban rate she is quite an acquisition when it comes to successfully ganks and roams. Pretty good in early game as well as in late when you can disrupt very effectively and help as well you team mates in soaking up some damage with that shield, this is the champion you wanna be careful about against.

Her ultimate is almost instant, coming without notice from somewhere along the map and scare the crap out of you. Very good as a support as well but not very helpful when it comes to sustain but covers that up in burst.

The perfect runes for her are the following: 3 Quints of Ability Power, 9 Marks of Magic Penetration, 9 Seals of Scaling Health and 9 Glyphs of Cooldown Reduction. The masteries are:12/18/0 the best. Her endgame balanced build should be looking like: Sorcerer’s Shoes- Distorsion, Athene’s Unholy Grail, Luden’s Echo, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Void Staff and Zhonya’s Hourglass. Morellonomicon could be a decent solution as well.

Lux is particularly weak against Talon and Fizz, having no other solution against them than Light Binding and counters champions like Karthus, Ryze or Malzahar, keeping them at a safe distance. She synergies well with Ezreal.

3. Gankplank – The motherfucking Pirate/ Graves- I’ve got a big gun and I know to use it.

best midlaner, league of legendsI’ve talked about him in Solo Toppers but’s still one of the most picked in high-elo ranked games. You could suit yourself. This is a decent choice on mid.

Instead I’d be talking a little more about Graves, playing him a lot since the new patch, a decent rework on his ultimate there, amazing burst, I could easily kill Lee Sin in a 1vs1 contest and can be played anywhere you want him to play , he’s very good at deleting people. The only downside of this champion is the time between shots that annoys me, but it can be dealt with nonetheless.

With a win rate of 54.3%  and a ban rate or 11.4%- understandably, this is clearly my favorite champion, has been even before the rework, but shhh, now it’s better. Unfortunately he’s good only early game, so be sure that you win until 30-45 min.

The runes for him are debatable but I’d go for tankiness if I were you with 3 Quints of Attack Speed, 6 Seals or Armor, 3 Seals of Health, 9 Marks of Attack Penetration and 9 Glyphs of Magic Resist. His core build should be looking like: Essence Reaver, Infinity Edge, The Blade of the Ruined King, Mercs, and probably Guardian Angel if you’re having a bit of a trouble when focused and moore damage, buy as much as you can due his lack of utility when it comes to attack speed.

It can be played 12/18/0 as well as 18/12/0, depends if you want to go off-tank or pure burster. I love this guy and hope you will enjoy it too. They still didn’t gave him a cigar.

Graves is weak against long-ranged champion such as Sivir and Caitlyn, but demolishes the low ranged like Vayne, Varus and others. He synergies extraordinarily with hard initiation supports or with anybody that can hold up the front line for him.

2. Ahri – the foxy fox that always gets away

ahri, league of legendsI mained this champ and sincerely I couldn’t get my hands of her. Very reliable, often getting kills and almost no deaths with her succeeding in escaping every single time. Even if they nerfed her a few times it’s still as strong as ever cause being one of the few magic damage with true as well.

That charm is working like a charm when it comes to engaging and on top of all she has spell vamp every 3 spells, trust me, it makes wonders. Perfect for catching fleeing opponents  and disengaging fast enough so you can live, and since the rework on her Q- Orb of Deception you can run like a crazy peep due it’s movement speed buff.

With a win rate of 53.5% and a ban rate of 1.3%, I’d say it’s still a reliable champion on mid considering the nerfes with high damage potential and poke with a whole set of running free at her disposal. Quite good only at the early stage of the game, she does pretty well afterwards as well.

The runes should be the following but you could always try new things and I’m open for suggestions: 3 Quints of Ability Power, 9 Marks of Magic Penetration, 9 Seals of Scaling Health and 9 Glyphs of scaling Cooldown Reduction considering the fact that you must poke intensively if you want a kill. The masteries are best 12/18/0 but the other way around works as well.

Her final build should be looking like the following: Morellonomicon, Sorcerer’s Shoes, Luden’s Echo, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Void Staff and Rylai’s Crystal Scepter. You could go with Rylai’s even earlier if you want a decent chase-up or simply kite. Situational items are the Abyssal Scepter and Zhonia’s Hourglass, but sincerely you don’t really need it. Go for full damage.

Ahri is countered by high-burst champions such as Le Blanc, Annie or Diana but works well against Xerath or Orianna. Has no synergies.

And last but not the least

1. Zed – the obnoxious ninja you can never tell where he is going.

best midlaners, ZedIn high elo this champion is a very respected one with one of the biggest potential of turning the tides and simply delete the carry, wherever he is, making it at all places in danger.

Even after succinct nerfes he still gets on my nerves and leaves without saying goodbye from the fight, leaving me wandering all alone this male Le Blanc. With no mana to be hanging on, poking potential of over 9000 and lots of sustained damage, this is the best choice atm to be going on the midlane.

With a win rate of 52.1% and a ban rate of 26.5%, it’s hard to believe you will get your hands on this pretty fellow with a mask, I know he’s pretty cause I’ve seen him, hah. The runes you should consider having on him are: 3 Quints of Attack Damage, 9 Marks of Armor Penetration, 9 Seals of Scaling Health and 9 Glyphs of Scaling Magic Resist considering the fact that you may face an mage on the midlane.

The masteries are definitely 12/18/0 to go with and the final build should be looking like a marksman’s with Infinity Edge, The Blade of the Ruined King, Trinity Force works as well, Mercs a MUST to be able to land your ultimate and get out, Mortal Reminder, Ravenous Hydra, and GA for a last item.

Zed is bad against Kayle and Wu Kong but successfully counters AP carriers like Kassadin and Lux, not being able to land their skills shots in time.
