Leonardo DiCaprio is a name that everybody knows. From unknown child actor to sweetheart and box office phenomenon in the late 90’. He first appeared on television in commercials and educational films.
Beginnings
He’s first serious role was for the television show Parenthood. The teenager actor starred alongside Johnny Depp in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, a part that got him great reviews and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He took leading role in The Basketball Diaries and the modern day version of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet which had a huge success. In 1997 he appeared in the blockbuster Titanic which gained him celebrity.
Although his tremendous success, Leonardo still considered himself as an edgy actor and tried to prove himself in the movie Catch Me If You Can opposite actor Tom Hanks and in Martin Scorsese’s Gangs of New York in 2002. His performance in The Departed was well received in 2006.
High profile films
In the recent years Leonardo has appeared in high profile films such as Blood Diamond and his environmental documentary The 11th Hour. In 2010 he starred in both Shutter Island and sci-fi film Inception.
Other movies that stood out for Leonardo’s acting performance that year where biopic film J. Edgar and Quentin Tarantino’s western movie Django Unchained. And if that wasn’t enough to strike out from his edginess he also starred in the movie The Great Gatsby and in 2013 he appeared in the hit movie The Wolf of Wall Street for which he received a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy and for the fourth time an Academy Award nomination.
Personal life
As for his personal life, Leonardo has been known for his on and off relationship with supermodel Gisele Bundchen, but got separated in 2005. Soon after he had a relationship for several years with model Bar Rafaeli and in 2011 he dated actress Blake Lively.
The actor is also implicated in environmental issues and an activist for gay rights. Leonardo’s talent and determination got him a rare opportunity of successful career as a child actor and as well as an adult.
