3. Scrubs (2001 – 2010, NBC | ABC)

Scrubs (2001 – 2010, NBC | ABC)

In a world full of medical drama TV series and in which Grey’s Anatomy seems to be endless… or at least it is trying to catch up with The Young and The Restless, there is Scrubs. Created by Bill Lawrence, Scrubs is an American production following the lives of a group of employees working at the Sacred Heart hospital. The main character is Dr. John Michael “J.D.” Dorian (Zach Braff), who, throughout the show, is learning the meaning of friendship, the hard ways of life and obviously, practical medicine. Along J.D., there are also Elliot Reid (Sarah Chalke), an intern who later becomes very important in J.D.’s life, J.D.’s best friend Christopher Tucker (Donald Faison), the Janitor (Neil Flynn), Bob Kelso (Ken Jenkins), Perry Cox (John C. McGinley) and many others.

Laughing = The Best Cure Ever

With the show debuting with John and Christopher in their first year out of college and finally working as interns, one can only guess correctly that the boys will still keep some of their old habits from college days. And with them keeping everyone entertained, the other characters join them in their detoxification with humor.

Here are a few proofs of their craziness:

“Why is there an intern in my bathroom? It’s not my birthday…”, “Everything I own is in this box./ A hat, some ramen, and a car battery? Don’t you have personal things?/ I had that battery a long time.”, “You don’t want to be a surgeon, Cole, it’s boring and it sucks. It’s the complete opposite of a water slide.”, “That’s exactly what Trang needed. Driving back and forth in the parking lot, reinforcing every stereotype of Asian drivers.”, “It’s springtime at Sacred Heart and the whole hospital has that end of the year smell. (J.D. sniffs nurse’s hair and cringes)”, “I am wearing red. Should I not be wearing red around her?/ She’s pregnant, she’s not a bull.”

Infamous goodbye

When TV series are going through changes, death is one step away. In this case, Scrubs started as a perfect mix of comedy and drama and beloved for its originality. Somehow, the last season was not as praised. While it did look promising with the new cast, the entire concept looked more like a spin-off. And if we learned something from our entire experience with spin-offs, it is that no matter how good they are, they are usually doomed to fail. Therefor… in May 2010, it was announced that this show was cancelled. But that does not mean we cannot still watch it and enjoy it!

2. How I Met Your Mother (2005 – 2014, CBS)

 How I Met Your Mother (2005 – 2014, CBS)

Created by Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, How I Met Your Mother is a sitcom and romantic comedy following the story of Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor), as told by his older self (voiced by Bob Saget) to his children (Lyndsy Fonseca and David Henrie), about his quest for true love – their mother. The story starts with him meeting Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders), his friends, Marshal Eriksen (Jason Segel) and Lily Aldrin (Alyson Hannigan) getting ready to make the big step and Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris)… being Barney Stinson.

How I Met My Comedy

If it is not your first day on the internet, you must have seen – at least once – screen caps from How I Met Your Mother with some funny quotes, be it from the romantic Ted, outsider Robin, adorable Marshal and Lily and the womanizer Barney. If you do not remember them, here are a few:

“ Think of me like Yoda, but instead of being little and green I wear suits and I'm awesome. I'm your bro—I'm Broda! ”

“I peed in an alley which happened to have a church which I did not see because I was drunk!”, “Whenever I’m sad, I stop being sad and be awesome instead.”, “God, it’s me, Barney. What up? I know we don’t talk much, but I know a lot of girls call out your name because of me. Awesome.”, “I wound up shame-eating the whole pizza. I woke up all greasy and sweaty. My sheets looked like what they wrap Deli sandwiches in.”,  “It’s gonna be legend-… wait for it… and I hope you’re not lactose intolerant because the second half of that word is DAIRY.”.

How I Met My Ending

With an irresistible cast and compelling story, How I Met Your Mother managed to seduce even the most skeptical TV addicts. But one thing disappointed them and that is the ending. For 8 seasons we had a span of one year from our heroes’ lives. Then, season 9 took another route and all of its episodes were set in such short amount of time that James Joyce would be proud of it. Though, the climax was not as expected and what fans feared the most happened. Everyone was so revolted, that the last episode is probably one of the most hated episodes in the history of television. Good thing that the producers have decided to release a new shorter version which ends where it was always meant to.

1. Friends (1994 – 2004, NBC)

Before How I Met Your Mother, there was David Crane and Marta Kauffman’s Friends. Starring Jennifer Aniston as Rachel Green, Courtney Cox as Monica Geller, Lisa Kudrow as PheobeBuffay, Matt LeBlanc as Joey Tribbiani, Matthew Perry as Chandler Bing and David Schwimmer as Ross Geller, the plot starts with Rachel as she runs away from her own wedding to her friend Monica and befriends her group. The episodes are mostly centered on the friends looking for their purpose in life, their relationships and their ups and downs.

Friends (1994 – 2004, NBC)

Best Friends…

Know how to make you smile. And these five goofs surely did know how to make us not only smile, but laugh from the bottom of our hearts. Here are some memorable lines from the show: “Wow, you guys sure have a lot of books about being a lesbian./ Well, you know, you have to take a course. Otherwise they don’t let you do it.”, “Well, I’m sorry if I’m not a middle-aged black woman. And I’m also sorry if sometimes I go to the wrong audition.””, “Hey, Ross, I got a science question: If the homo sapiens were, in fact, HOMO sapiens…is that why they’re extinct?/ Joey, homo sapiens are PEOPLE./ Hey, I’m not judgin’!”, “It’s a moo point. It’s like a cow’s opinion; it doesn’t matter. It’s moo.”, “I remember the day I got my first paycheck, there was a cave-in in one of the mines./ Phoebe, you worked in a mine?/ No I worked in a Dairy Queen.”, “Chandler entered a Vanilla Ice look-alike contest and WON!/ Ross came fourth and CRIED!”, “Why do you have to break up with her? Be a man. Just stop calling.”.

Joey

With the show ending in 2004, after 10 years, many fans were sad that they would not see their favorite characters anymore. Therefore, the spin-off Joey has been created. Starring Matt LeBlanc as the eponymous main character, Joey follows the Friends hero as he parts from his friends and leaves New York for Hollywood and fame. With only 2 seasons, this show had an amazing potential, but the odds were not in its favor and NBC cancelled it.
