After being a model in her teen years (won Miss Hawaiian Tropic Canada in 2003), Maryse Ouellet Mizanin took part in the WWE Diva Search competition. Although Maryse made it to the top 8 of the competition, she only got 6th place (Layla El won the competition). This didn’t stop the WWE to invite Maryse to check out their training facilities at the OVW.
Few months later, Maryse signs a contract with WWE, after which she began her training at OVW. Maryse made her debut on the ring in a live event in December 2006. The following year, Maryse made her first television appearance on the 21st May episode of Raw. She presented Timbaland’s new music video for his single “Throw it on me”, video which featured many WWE Divas with Maryse being one of them.
Titles are very important to wrestlers and especially to Maryse. Although she lost in her first time challenging the title of the WWE Divas Championship (against Michelle McCool), Maryse didn’t give up. Soon after her loss, she got her chance at the title again. This time, Maryse managed to take the title home of WWE Divas Champion in a SmackDown episode featuring Maria as a special guest referee.
Maryse held on to her title for 216 days, the longest reign in WWE Divas Championship history until AJ Lee surpassed it in January 2014.
Maryse’s role in the wrestling world was that of a heel, a bad guy (or woman in this case), allowing her to be break the rules any way she deemed fit. The “bad guy” aspect of Maryse increased her sex-appeal and popularity among viewing men.
In October 28th 2011 Maryse was released from her contract with WWE, after two months of inactivity for her. Few years after her contract release, Maryse married Mike Mizanin, professional wrestler known as “The Miz”, in 2014 after a one-year long engagement.
