Year after year, Hollywood and other foreign film production companies bring us amazingly entertaining and engaging movies and films that we can enjoy. In 2016, we got some award winning films, such as Spotlight, Inside Out and the Star Wars story: Rogue One.
2017 is certainly not any different, as there are many movies that are beloved by critics and audiences alike. 6. John Wick: Chapter 2

John Wick is one of the best hit men in the world and after the events of the first movie, looks like he is out of retirement. After constantly being asked if he is “back” throughout the first movie, John Wick finally gives in and is officially back in business!

You can expect the same high octane action that we saw in the first installment, as well as some recurring characters. John Wick is of course played by Keanu Reeves, but we can also see Ian McShane as Winston and John Leguizamo as Aurelio.
Other than familiar faces, there are a few new characters too, such as the new villain, The Bowery King who is portrayed by Laurence Fishburne. By simply looking at this lineup, we can already see that this is a good movie to watch!
If you are not familiar with the first movie, basically, John Wick is a highly trained professional hitman, who chooses to retire from his crime-filled life because of his wife. Unfortunately, his wife passes away in a hospital and all that’s left of her is a cute puppy that she gifted to him, so he wouldn’t be alone.
When one of John’s previous partner’s son brutally beats him up and kills the dog, John goes on a one-man war against the Tarasov family and all of their henchmen. The acting and the action scenes in the first movie were quite enjoyable and thrilling. With a stellar cast, this is truly an action film that you are not going to want to miss out on.
If you watch Game of Thrones, you can even see Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) in it. Of course, this might not be the role that you are going to love him for, but he is still in it! If you are looking for something more recent, John Wick: Chapter 2 isn’t a movie that you want to miss out on either. 5. Beauty and the Beast

Based on the 1991 Walt Disney animated movie of the same name, this live-action remake is telling the same enchanting story with breathtaking visuals and an amazing soundtrack to go with it. You can hear almost all of the songs from the animated movie, which is going to take you straight back to the 90s if you have watched the original animation.

If not, you do not know what you are missing out on, as it is truly a beautiful tale of love and the masks that people hide behind. When Belle’s (Emma Watson) father gets taken hostage by the Beast (Dan Stevens) in his castle, she goes after him and takes his place as the prisoner.
At first, she hates the prince of the castle, but as time progresses, she starts to see the human, rather than the beast. Eventually, the two fall in love and they have a great time together, not knowing that the villagers from Belle’s town are plotting to hunt the Beast down and rescue Belle.
The leader of this expedition, Gaston (Luke Evans) does everything that he can to kill the beast that Belle has beloved. There are also many other recurring characters, such as Lumiere, the candlestick (voiced by Ewan McGregor), Mrs. Potts (Emma Thompson) and Cogsworth (Ian McKellen).
You are going to see various other things from the animated movie too, so the nostalgic feeling is ensured. The new movie turned out to be a beautiful rendition of the old tale with stunning visual effects. The team behind the film has put a lot of work into the project and they have paid extra attention to detail.
Just look at what the team did with the performance that Dan Stevens performed. They took two separate shots of his body and his head and combined it together in the editing room with lots of CGI. This live-action version of the old tale is truly enchanting and it brings back so many memories of watching the original Disney animation.
4. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has the same old rag-tag team of “heroes” that we got introduced to and familiarized ourselves with in the first movie. Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper) and Groot/Baby Groot (Vin Diesel) are all returning in yet another cosmic adventure.
This time, the team sets out on a journey across the galaxy, looking for answers as to who Star-Lord’s father really is. You can expect the same humor that we got to see in the first movie and some highly action-packed scenes as well. This movie is a direct sequel to the 2014 Marvel movie of the same name.

In it, we got introduced to the guardians and got to learn a little bit about each of them. They needed to forge their friendship and start working together in order to achieve their goals and ultimately this is what helped them when they needed it the most.
The first movie was filled with amazingly choreographed action scenes and the CGI was also highly appraised. In addition, a great soundtrack was also present throughout the movie and there are still people who are listening to the “Awesome Mix Vol. 1” to this day.

3. Wonder Woman

The DC Extended Universe has received a few movies in the last couple of years, such as Man of Steel in 2013 and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in which Wonder Woman (played by Gal Gadot) was introduced.
She was only a side character, but in 2017, one of the most popular female heroes of the DC Universe gets her own movie! The premise is very appealing; Diana lives on the island of Themyscira with her amazon sisters, far away from civilization. When Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), an American soldier crashes on the island, he befriends Diana and tells her about the war that they are fighting back home.
Diana decides to leave the island that she grew up on, in order to help with World War I. Little did she know that she would soon become the biggest female hero that the world has ever seen!
In the 2016 superhero movie, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, we didn’t really get to know the character of Wonder Woman that well, but this is all going to change in 2017, as this movie is actually an origin story that showcases how Diana transformed from an amazon princess to a superhero that would save the universe multiple times.
We can also expect another movie in which Gal Gadot plays the same role. DC has another superhero movie scheduled for 2017, with Justice League hitting theatres in November. In it, Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), the Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and of course Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) are all making an appearance in order to fight yet another villain.

At this point, there is very little that we know about this movie, but we will keep you posted as new information emerges. Many people call this movie the salvation of the DC film universe and for a very good reason.
Not only that Wonder Woman is a great action film, but it also reignited people’s interest in DC characters and the whole universe. We can only hope that Justice League is going to have the same effect on fans!
2. Despicable Me 3

We couldn’t have finished the list of the best movies of 2017 without mentioning at least one animated film. The third installment of the Despicable Me series brings back famous characters, such as Gru (Steve Carell), Lucy Wilde (Kristen Wiig) and of course, the girls: Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier) and Agnes (Nev Scharrel).

We can’t forget about everybody’s favorite Minions either, as they are making a comeback too! In addition, we get to see a new villain who is voiced by Trey Parker. Balthazar Bratt is the one that the team has to stop and this might be an even harder challenge than what they had to overcome before, as this is one hip and somewhat cool character, for sure!
He also has his own weapons and gadgets that he uses to achieve world domination and we can only hope that Gru, Lucy and the Minions do a good job at stopping this evil mastermind. Just like in the first two movies, we can expect some hilarious scenes and cute animations.
Of course, there are going to be many action scenes as well and this is a movie that children and adults can enjoy together. The Despicable Me series has always catered to adults and children alike and this release is no different. You can bring your kid and still have a great time, laughing throughout the movie.

And the last movie that we are going to feature on the list is the newest standalone movie of the webslinger; Spider-Man: Homecoming. In the 2016 movie Captain America: Civil War, we got introduced to the new Spider-Man (played by Tom Holland).
This younger Peter Parker got a little help from Tony Stark, aka the Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and now he is officially a superhero that the world is counting on. Unfortunately for Peter, he also has to go to school and keep a fine balance between crime-fighting and his education.

Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) cannot know about anything that Peter does in his spare time, so he even has to think about that. For me, this is one of the best renditions of Spider-Man, mainly because of his witty dialogue. Finally, we get a Spidey that likes to throw jokes and one-liners around like there is no tomorrow!
Tom Holland did an amazing job with what he’s been given in Civil War, and this standalone release is no different. He is the Spider-Man of the 21st century that we can all relate to. Even though Spider-Man is the main reason we are watching this movie, no superhero is complete without a great villain.
The Vulture is played by Michael Keaton and knowing the history of the character, I can assure you that he is going to wreak some havoc and make it hard for Peter to live his ordinary, everyday life.
These are some of the best movies of 2017, but there is still a lot of time till the end of the year, so there are surely going to be more amazing productions.
