Andrew Douglas\u2019 2005 version of The Amityville Horror follows the same story as the first movie of the original franchise.<\/p>\n
<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The Lutz family, George (<a href=\"http:\/\/6toplists.com\/ryan-reynolds-and-blake-lively\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ryan Reynolds<\/a>), Kathy (Melissa George) and Kathy\u2019s children from her previous marriage Billy, Michael and Chelsea (Chloe Grace Moretz) move into the infamous Amityville house where they want to start a new life. Melissa George\u2019s character seems like a carbon copy of Shelley Duvall\u2019s in <a href=\"http:\/\/6toplists.com\/top-10-scariest-ghost-movies-3rd-1st-place\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Shining<\/a>, be it bad acting or the bad script.<\/p>\n<p>The story is quite boring, extremely repetitive and brings nothing new to the franchise and to the horror genre, remaining just a redundant remake of a not-so-spectacular-either movie.<\/p>\n<h3>It Might Work?<\/h3>\n<p>No matter how uninspired is the movie for the 21th century, opinions on the original one are also not exactly positive even though it\u2019s a cult-classic; so, one can watch it out of curiosity and boredom . Also, this version has in its cast Ryan Reynolds and his abs and the adorable sexy <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm1631269\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chloe Grace Moretz<\/a> when she was just adorable. From the sweet typical teenager, Laurie turned into an annoying disrespectful brat.<\/p>\n<div id=\"quote_shortcode\" class=\"sixtop-post-quote post-quote-right\" >\n<div class=\"quote-sign-box hidden-on-desktop\"><\/div>\n<p> “ Unnecessary explosions of violence turn this slasher horror into a failure ”<\/p>\n<div id=\"quote_shortcode_after\">\n <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>While it is understandable due to the traumatic events she went through, whining like a spoiled 9 year old and hurting the people who did nothing but help you make Laurie completely unsympathetic to the audience.<\/p>\n<p>Her attitude and the unnecessary explosions of violence turn this slasher horror into a failure and into the black sheep of the franchise.<\/p>\n<h3>The Yang to this Yin<\/h3>\n<p>Despite the terrible portrayal of Laurie\u2019s character, other actors such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0600667\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sheri Moon Zombie<\/a> and Malcom McDowell do a great job.<\/p>\n<p>Also, Rob Zombie\u2019s vision gives a real-nightmare feeling to the audience that might make everyone jump out of its seat. And even though this 1998 remake is a carbon copy, it lacks the playfulness of the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=NG3-GlvKPcg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> original movie<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Also, with a difference of almost 40 years between the movies, one can\u2019t assume that everything can remain the same, but the clothes. In short, if you remake a movie 40 years later, at least don\u2019t copy-paste the script and every single detail. A few changes never hurt anybody.<\/p>\n<h3>A Watch for the Effort<\/h3>\n<p>If Van Sant bothered to remake Psycho as a homage and to bring it to the younger audience who might not be exactly a fan of black and white classics, one can at least watch it. It is rather puerile and not as scary as<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-V3M65itr6I\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> the original<\/a>, with the theme being too close to the one from The Ring\/Ringu. Besides, it is not the worst horror.
