“My niece was very much caught up in the vampire craze for young adults, and she thought having a vampire boyfriend would be a cool thing. What do you do on a first date? The more I thought about it, the more fun I had imagining what you’d serve a vampire for dinner.”
-Deborah Harkness
“Vampires are immortal, you can do whatever you want, and get away with it. And there’s the seduction part, of course, sex is a big part of the vampire thing.”
-Jonny Lee Miller
“Sometimes I feel the only way I can get a major publisher interested in mental illness is if I find a character who has bipolar disorder and is also a love-sick vampire attending an English school called Hogwarts. But I’m not giving up.”
-Pete Earley
Vampires are lively, sexy and dangerous. Even though their appearance and their image sometimes may be boring.
The harmful, bloodsucking living deads occur in many people’s faith, the Egyptians put garlic in Tutankhamun’s burial chamber to repel evil spirits, though the “real” vampire stories are beginning to appear in modern Europe, the golden age of the vampires was the 17-18. century. The remainders of the oldest vampire from the 16th century were recently discovered in Venice.
The imagination of artists became excited again by vampires in the recent years. A new vampire book and film are published almost every day. If, however, we believe that vampires are preserved in the pages of books or on the big screen, we are wrong. Some people report vampire observations even today!
For example in 1970 news were spread that a vampire amucks in the Highgate cemetery of London. Obviously, the case was not treated very seriously, but there was a local resident called Sean Manchester who demanded vampire hunting.
Finally, the ceremony was not performed, but since then Manchester became a professional vampire hunter and exorcist. So some people still believe that vampires are not just the ridiculous product of the superstitious and childish human fantasy, but think that they are real and they mean imminence to us!
Of course some people say we can be very pretentious until we meet in person with the supernatural, but anyway, I have not met any vampires yet. Let’s not have a look at the top 6 vampire movies of all time, that we gathered very considerately:
6. Interview with the Vampire (Neil Jordan, 1994)
If someone could mention only one vampire movie, sure that would be Interview with the Vampire. Not that this would be closely correlated with the quality. Anyway, everyone knows this masterpiece of Neil Jordan. The screenplay is based on Anne Rice’s bestseller, which fantasizes with the reality and immortality of bloodsuckers.
Senses of Cinema posted an extensive article about Neil Jordan and his filmography that you should definitely check out
They are walking among us, and they are always thirsty for our blood. Daniel Malloy (Christian Slater), the journalist gets one of the best opportunities of his lifetime, he prepares for an interview with a real vampire, Louis de Pointe du Lac (Brad Pitt). He is fascinated by the idea that Louis would tell his whole life story.
Even though he is a bit skeptical, with time the reporter becomes more and more convinced of the living dead’s credibility. The pure suffering of the vampire becomes clear and the film is highly authentic in the depiction of this misery.
Anne Rice’s book Interview With the Vampire is available on Amazon in paperback, hardcover and audio as well, get it now
The stars deployed on the screen (Tom Cruise, Antonio Banderas and Kirsten Dunst) do not disappoint us for a single moment. This amazing time travel represents us genuinely the somber reality of these damned souls in 110 minutes.
5. The Hunger (Tony Scott, 1983)
Miriam, the sexy and young Egyptian vampire is just little more than 6000 years old. But longevity has a price: she has to quench her thirst with human blood again and again. She would not give up this privilege for anything. The love of her life, John, is also typically hematophagous who suddenly starts to grow old from scratch.
Even though Miriam is able to present anyone with a long life, immortality is not included in the list of her services. That is why she visits and seduces Sarah, the doctor, who is doing researches in the field of aging. She expects him to help, but things – as always – do not seem to be so evident.

Attraction -which is known to be hardly controllable-, interjaculates. This movie is Tony Scott’s first work in the genre of film, and he is already showing us his undeniable talent. This dark, sorrowful play grips us and leaves us without words, ruthlessly unmasking the inseparability of love and selfishness.
4. Let the Right One in (Tomas Alfredson, 2008)
Are you fed up with the cliches of ruined castles, sensitive, etiolated virgins and maliciously laughing vampires wrapped in dark mantles? Then this may be the appropriate movie for you! The story is about the friendship of two little children, the twelve years old Oskar and Eli with the same age.
The spooky location of Stockholm’s miserable suburb provides a good platform for this heart-sick tale. Oskar is humiliated by his classmates from day to day, it seems there is no escape, he does not find shelter anywhere since his parents are divorced and her mother entirely digs into her work leaving no time to pay attention to his son.
But one day a strange boy, Eli appears on the scene. She is similar to Oscar in terms of social relations, so they immediately find a common voice. But there’s just one small problem: Eli is a vampire girl. I would recommend this movie since we do not find a hint of dissimulation in the screenplay and it approaches a sensitive topic properly, while it artfully mingles reality and fantasy.

3. What We Do in the Shadows (Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement, 2014)
This is certainly not a commercial vampire film. Four bachelor vampires live together under the same roof. They are from different age groups, the oldest is 8000, while the youngest is 180 years old. Due to a documentary crew, we get insight into the everyday life of these suckers, when they have to confront the hardship of everyday activities as dishwashing, cleaning the ceiling or the preparation before a party.
The latter is more particularly problematic since vampires do not have a reflection in the mirror, thus the dressing becomes increasingly difficult. The solution is the fabrication of many drawings, so they can more or less verify the sufficiency of their appearance.
The comedy is full of good intention, even though sometimes it hits a critical tone. But as we know, kindliness is always dubious without a bit of badinage. New Zealand did not disappoint us with this piece, which bombards us with sparkling humor crackers without stopping.
2. Only Lovers Left Alive (Jim Jarmusch, 2013)
Adam (Tom Hiddleston), the vampire is living in Detroit and he is very lonely. But what else could a vampire be? Probably I would also keep a distance from such a being. In a word, Adam works as a musician, but one day his ex-lover suddenly pops up out of nowhere, who in fact is a vampire too.
The two bloodsuckers find each other again. To intensify the flow of events, Eve’s sister also appears on the scene shortly after. If you are a real film snob – as the writer of these lines – then you will really appreciate this piece of art. Not to mention that Jim Jarmusch directed the movie, whose name is a fine brand among film geeks with high expectations.

Besides Night on Earth, Dead Man, Down by law and others this one comes through too. Actually, the silver-headed genius redefines the whole vampire genre with the intellectual narrative and stylish features of Only Lovers Left Alive.

1. From Dusk Till Dawn (Robert Rodriguez, 1996)
The two directors of classic gangster movies could not leave unhandled the genre of vampire movies and this is perfectly understandable. Blood is blood, regardless of the circumstances, and these guys love blood, there is no getting around it. And the icing on the cake is the appearance of Tarantino himself on the screen beside George Clooney.
Here is a pretty cool list by Genius.com about all the Quentin Tarantino movies and the references in them, check it out
The create a perfect and excessively entertaining duo. The dance performance of Salma Hayek makes thing more exciting, even though she soon takes a very scary shape. Eventually, we will figure out that these vampires are not ordinary vampires and despite the unusual lineup this movie remains a typical Tarantino-Rodriguez classic.
