3rd: Drew Barrymore and Jeremy Thomas
I think it was kind of obvious for everybody when Drew Barrymore and Jeremy Thomas would marry that it couldn’t have lasted too long. The rebellious 19-year-old Drew Barrymore decided in 1994 that it was a good idea to marry bar owner Jeremy after only six months of knowing him. Ironically their marriage lasted the same length as the dating process before it.
The marriage ceremony
Drew’s act of rebellious love, among others that she did those years, lasted only 39 days. The couple saw it as romantic. With no wedding dress, not a romantically dropping in one knee to propose but just a dark alley where Drew organized the proposing.
The marriage ceremony took place in Jeremy’s bar. The E.T. actress was known for having a troubled childhood with drug addictions and by the age of 14, rehab stints. But she claimed that she was sober and really aware of her desire to marry Jeremy. Unfortunately the fairytale lasted six weeks when Drew finally got a grip and intended the divorce papers.
Talking about failed marriages, Drew is not the luckiest when it comes to relationships. She had relationship with actors Luke Wilson, Edward Norton, Justin Long, got engaged to actor Will Kopelman and married comedian Tom Green.
Drew’s rocky childhood
It was always Drew’s rocky childhood that got in the way of her adult life. With roots from other famous actors, her parents lack of presence in her growing up which led her to a dramatic decline.
From skipping school and going with her mother in clubs to developing drug addictions and going to rehab, all until she was even 15 years old. So this marriage was just another outburst of her already troubled personality back then. For more information about Drew, check out our article on her life as a child star.
2nd: Carmen Electra and Dennis Rodman
The flashy basketball player got the Sin City fever when he married “Baywatch” bombshell Carmen Electra in 1998. The news got a few heads turned, one of them being Dennis’s publicist who questioned thorough this marriage. They married at 7 a.m. in a Las Vegas ceremony and quoting the words of the NBA rebounding champion’s publicist, he might have “deeply intoxicated”.
Nine days marriage
Although the couple claimed their love was legit, it seems that nine days is all it took to change that and file for an annulment. After the official finalization of the marriage, six months later, Carmen told People magazine that “It’s easy to get caught up in a moment. You think it’s romantic, but then you realize, ‘God, we did it in Vegas?’ It’s like getting a cheeseburger at a fast-food restaurant.” It’s a good thing they realized, at least after, that this would have been an awful decision.
The bad overweighed
Dennis was recent on the lips of the Scary Movie actress when she opened up about her failed marriage on Oprah Winfrey’s “Where Are They Now?” series.
She motivated that she was attracted to him “because he had a reputation for being a bad boy” and that Dennis “was very passionate. When it was good, it was amazing,” she said. “And when it was bad, it was the worst.”
They met shortly after Carmen’s mother had passed away and she felt like they understood each other in a way but eventually the bad overweighed.
They recently saw each other on a Halloween event where Carmen attended but where Dennis came uninvited and got his ex-wife a bit worried of his intentions. Although Dennis came in peace, Carmen called extra security with her because of Dennis’s insistence of getting in the party all night and left the bombshell with an overall bitter taste.
1st: Britney Spears and Jason Alexander
Britney Spears shocked her fans when she married childhood friend Jason Alexander in in 2004. The two have been married for 2 days. The thing that went wrong? The pop icon married, no wait…she actually proposed to her childhood sweetheart and got really quickly to it in a hurry in a Las Vegas ceremony. After about 55 hours, they cancelled their marriage, Britney referring to it since as a “joke that went too far”.
The crazy wedding
They claim it was the spirit of Sin City that made them take this irrational decision of getting married. “It was just so crazy, man,” Alexander later told Access Hollywood. “We were just looking at each other and said, “Let’s do something wild, crazy. Let’s go get married, just for the hell of it.”Again Alexander said that they were both drunk and indulged in “party favors”.
Britney’s outfit for the wedding was made out of a baseball cap and torn jeans. Thanks to her manager, who got Britney an attorney as quickly as he could get, the crazy wedding was soon to be over. Luckily there wasn’t a big fight between them “they seemed to be comfortable with the fact that they were getting divorced.”
The annulment papers cited that the reason for the dissolution of the marriage is that Britney “lacked understanding of her actions to the extent that she was incapable of agreeing to the marriage.”
Alexander totally disagree with it. Britney commented after the wedding was over that she was “being silly, being rebellious, and not really taking the responsibility of what I was doing.”
So should we have taken this as a first sign of Britney’s decline of rehab stints, head shaving and court hearings? Everybody took this marriage as it was presented. As a silly pop princess moment.
Today her career is on fire once again and as her fellow judge at the X-Factor, Simon Cowell said: “The fact that she’s one of the most talked about – not just pop stars – but people in the world today, means that you’ve got this star power. […] She’s still hot, she’s still having hit records and she’s still controversial, there’s a reason for that.”
