The team was founded in 1902 as Madrid Football Club and it was not until 1920 when King Alfonso XIII bestowed them with the title “Real” which stands for “Royal” and the royal crown on their emblem, that they were called Real Madrid.

It is the one of the most supported clubs in the world and the world’s richest club with the most valuable sports team, worth $3.4 billion.

Although the club established itself as a major force in the European stage in the 50’s, the club’s most prolific period was between 2000 and 2006 with “Los Galacticos”.

After being elected club president, Florentino Perez assembled one of the most recognizable teams in football with players like Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo, Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Raul, Fabio Cannavaro and David Beckham.

Nowadays the club is ran by Carlo Ancelotti, Jose Mourinho’s successor, who appointed Zinedine Zidane and Paul Clement as his assistants. In his first year at the club, Ancelotti won Copa del Rey and defeated rivals Atletico Madrid in the 2014 UEFA Champions League finals becoming the first team to win ten European Cups, and achievement known as “La Decima”
